Shoppen im Internet ist eine schöne Sache, auch Auktionen machen so manchem Spaß. Problematisch wird die ganze Geschichte nur dann, wenn einzelne Personen versuchen dabei zu betrügen.

Seit letzter Woche habe auch ich die Freude, einen solchen Fall mitzubekommen. Das eBay-Mitglied “ultra-shoppy” versucht offenbar mit Nachdruck Karten für das Elton John Konzert in Berlin auf eBay zu erstehen – eigentlich ja kein Problem, würde diese Person nicht meinen Namen und meine Adresse verwenden um an die Karten zu kommen.

Glücklicherweise sind die meisten Verkäufer aber mit gesundem Menschenverstand ausgestattet und werden stutzig, wenn zu einer Anschrift in Kaiserslautern (nämlich meiner) eine Versandadresse in Berlin (die des Betrügers) angegeben wird.

Dank meines blogs und der hinreichend über das Web verstreuten Verweise auf meine Person (Gremienarbeit und ordentliche Forenbeiträge können doch hilfreich sein) haben aber bisher wohl noch alle meine richtigen Kontaktdaten gefunden und konnten mich so erreichen. Für diese Leute ist das ganze eigentlich noch ärgerlicher, denn sie sind ja im Zweifelsfall wirklich geschädigt während ich bisher nur Papierkram und Mailverkehr zu erledigen hatte.

Wenn sie diese Zeilen lesen weil sie wegen eines eBay-Gebots von mir nach Kontaktdaten suchen – ich muss sie leider enttäuschen, seit 2001 habe ich die Plattform eBay nicht mehr genutzt, sie haben es mit einem Betrüger zu tun.

I’ve been using Windows Vista x64 on my new Thinkpad T61 for a little more than a month now. The reason for this is simple: I wanted to have all 4GB of my RAM and only 64bit operating systems can do that for you.

I firmly believe that 2008 will be the year that 64bit Windows finds its breakthrough moment – the reason for this is simple: RAM is c.h.e.a.p.!!

My own tally shows that I get 64bit drivers for all my hardware now and though some of them still seem to need some ironing out I was generally surprised by the stability of the system. Not only me though, a lot of my friends who have the same or similar notebooks all switched to Vista 64…

I think something’s going on here and the mainstream IT press hasn’t quite caught up on it yet. It’ll be interesting to see when that happens.

I’ve only today realized that my current ThinkPad T61 is a heck of a lot cheaper than even the regular MacBook. At 1.300,-€ including 3 years bring-in warranty, the ThinkPad was equipped about the same as the MacBook black. That however doesn’t come with a 3 year warranty, the upgrade pushes its price more towards 1.500,-€ which is in the end what I paid for my ThinkPad. Then again, I got 200GB internal HDD @7.200rpm, 4GB of RAM and the 120GB original 5.400rpm hdd in a swappable drivebay (which is not an option on the MacBook.

To be totally honest, I even think the ThinkPad looks better – or rather more serious.

I know I haven’t written here in quite a while – as always there’s usually more important stuff going on and that’s certainly true for me. So what’s been going on?

- I’ve recently made the switch to a new ThinkPad T61, running Vista 64. So far its been a positive experience and I haven’t run into quite as many difficulties as I was expecting.
- School is still annoying, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel (finally!).
- Work is starting to get interesting. I’ve taken and passed the ITIL foundations examination. Hence, I’ve mostly been busy trying to implement more process oriented IT services. Whether I’ve been successful however is still up in the air.
- Christmas came and went.

Oh yeah, I’m still single, but what’s new with that?
